Crazed Monk and Beauty

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro as a crazed monk staring up at a beauty, rubbing his head in a puzzled manner. He kneels on the ground carrying a tattered straw hat, wearing a black monk's robe over a brown kimono, his hair short as if growing out. The woman smiles back at him, holding a dotted towel in her hand as she makes her way around the fenced yard of a building. The left portion of the fence is made from straw matting tied to a bamboo framed. An intriguing image with expressive figures and a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 19 1/2" x 13 5/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Two separate panels. Some wrinkling and creasing in subject. Some light rubbing and soiling. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
