Unhappy Samurai by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Unhappy Samurai

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a samurai looking over his shoulder with an unhappy frown. He grips a sword in his outstretched hand as he pushes up the sleeve of his boldly patterned red and black kimono. He wears striped hakama pants and yellow socks, and has a sash tied around his forehead, his short bushy hair sticking up wildly atop his head. A decorative border and text runs across the top of the image. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 9 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Lightly toned with a couple small holes at corners and near edges, repaired from reverse. Light spotting and rubbing surrounding subject. Slight creasing and soiling throughout. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
