Prince Genji and Beauties near the Water, 1852

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji and a pair of beauties near the water's edge. He smiles cheerfully as he gestures to the woman behind him, who carries an elegant red lacquer tobacco set. The woman at right serves as his sword bearer, carrying his weapon upright. She wears a kimono shaded from pale pink to white and patterned with large white peonies. A stone embankment with arched bridges leads across the water behind them, with a mansion visible at right and mountains in the distance. Lovely color and detail in this charming subject, including a subtle burnished geometric pattern in the black kimono.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Lightly toned throughout with a few areas of staining near top and bottom edges. Slight tearing and creasing along edges with some minor spotting and soiling in subject. A few small holes and tears along edges, repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
