Comments - Intriguing triptych depicting a retainer restraining a samurai inside a nobleman's mansion. In the center, the warrior jumps on one foot, kicking another man and struggling to free himself from the retainer's grip around his torso as he glares angrily at the daimyo, who sits on a cushion in the next room. The other man tumbles heed over heals at right while at left, another retainer opens the side of a lamp, casting a wide shaft of light across the darkened room. The samurai gathered around the room lean forward anxiously, holding their lanterns high and preparing to draw their weapons. A great composition with wonderful detail in the elegantly furnished mansion and fine shading to create the effects of light.
