Startled Man and Beauty, 1855

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a startled man flinging his arms out to the side as he leans forward, frowning unhappily. He wears a heavy plaid kimono, one sleeve pushed down to reveal a blue striped under robe, a white sash tied about his forehead. Behind him, a woman crawls along the floor, biting anxiously on a handkerchief. Tie-dyed curtains hang in the doorway at upper right, and a shelf on the wall holds an oil lamp and vases for a household shrine. Nicely colored with a detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple areas of light creasing near edges with one small stain near bottom left corner of print. A few small pinpoint holes along right edge of panel, all repaired from reverse. Faint soiling in subject with areas of slight fading and tearing along edges Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
