Springtime Haze with First Nightingale

Comments - Attractive spring scene of guests arriving for a visit. At left, a beauty carrying a blossoming plum branch walks along the stepping stones through the garden, followed by a mother and daughter. Inside the house at right, a woman pounds something in a large pestle, assisted by a young girl, with various ingredients set out on the floor nearby. A blue and white ceramic planter holds a bonsai plum tree covered with white flower and buds, while in a niche at right, a one-stringed zither leans against the wall. A charming subject with fine color and soft shading in the sky.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 5/8" + margins
