Child Sneaking Food

Series; Thirty-six Comic Views of Famous Places in Tokyo

Child Sneaking Food - Entertaining scene from a series Ikkei did in the early 1870s parodying Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo." Here, a young child uses a pair of stilts to sneak a bite from a servant carrying a lacquer tray of food through the street. At right, a laborer with a yoke over his shoulder roars with laughter while a boy carrying a pair of sandals gestures at the site. An interesting comic subject combined with vibrant color and fine bokashi shading.

Artist - Ikkei (active circa 1870s)

Image Size - 8 3/4" x 13" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A number of small holes repaired from reverse. Some light staining and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
