Series; Fifty-Four Battles of Hideyoshi's Warriors (Hisago Gundan)

Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Warriors - Hideyoshi was born in Owari province, the son of a peasant. As a young man he joined the Oda Clan as a low level retainer. He was noticed for his resourcefulness and rose to a high position within the clan despite his origins. He quickly became one of Oda Nobunaga's most important generals, adopting the name Hideyoshi. His bravery and dedication to the clan were legendary, and tales of Hideyoshi's and his warriors' exploits have long been a part of Japanese history. Succeeding Nobunaga, Hideyoshi brought an end to the warring states of the Sengoku era, unifying Japan. He is one of the most significant and remarkable figures in Japanese history.

Yoshitsuya's Fifty-four Battles - A popular subject for many 19th century woodblock artists, around 1864 Yoshitsuya created this incredible series of prints based on the legendary exploits of Hideyoshi and his brave retainers. With vibrant color, wonderful attention to detail, and masterful compositions, these images are brimming with energy and action. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast
