Courtesans in an Iris Garden

Comments - Lovely scene of three courtesans and their young kamuro or child apprentices visiting an iris garden. The beauty as left is engrossed in a long letter, smiling as she reads the message. The courtesan in the center wears a blue and white tie-dyed kimono with a red collar, holding a round fan with a design of a heron on it. Her young attendant offers her an ornate pipe. The background is filled with beautiful oversize irises in shades of blue and purple, with ornate lanterns adorned with beads and tassels hanging overhead. A terrific image with vibrant color, fine line work in the hair, and embossing in the letter.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Slight soiling, faint offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
