Full Moon over the Water, 1890

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a shy beauty and a young man strolling along the water's edge. The beauty shyly turns her head, biting her sleeve. The man smiles back at her as he pushes up the striped sleeves of his kimono. His hair is worn short in the modern Meiji style, parted near the center. A large full moon glows yellow above the silhouetted buildings on the opposite shore, and the masts of ships can be seen above the low-lying mist at left. The actor in the center is Nakamura Shikan. A handsome design with large figures and fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Small losses and tears at edges, a few small holes, repaired, blends well. Faint toning, slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details.
