Woman Warrior Fighting Guards, 1865

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a woman warrior fighting off several guards. She steps atop the neck of one of her attackers, who sprawls on the floor, as another grabs her from behind. She wields a sword in one hand, clashing it against the iron truncheon of a policeman, while swinging a bow in her other hand. A nobleman carrying a naginata watches solemnly at left, making no move to intervene, while worried priest clutching a string of prayer beads looks on with eyes wide. A great image full of energy and action, nicely colored.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A few small wormholes and holes, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
