Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
Bustling Evening in the City, 1868

Comments - Charming scene of a bustling evening at a tea stand in the city. In the foreground, a woman walks past carrying a blooming potted plant, accompanied by a child with a tiny lantern on a pole. The waitress hides a smile with her hand as she chats with a customer, a tray in hand and a blue apron tied around her waist. The customer sits on a bench smoking a pipe, a full moon glowing overhead. The stand at right is stacked with cups and containers beneath a sign. A terrific look at city life in old Japan, wonderfully detailed.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 7/8"
