Illustration of the Empress Strolling, 1877

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting the Meiji Empress and her ladies-in-waiting going for a stroll. The empress wears a delicately embossed white outer robe and carries a folding fan decorated with red ribbons. She wears a small golden headdress, and has the "moth's wing" eyebrows popular at the time. An attendant shelters her beneath a Western-style purple umbrella. Her companions all wear colorful kimono over white robes tucked into red hakama pants. A lovely design with fine line work in the hair and additional embossing in the white kimono trim.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Faint toning, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
