Asahina Yoshihide Breaking down the Great Gate, 1857

Comments - Fantastic design of Asahina Saburo Yoshihide breaking down the great gate during the Wada Rebellion against the Hojo in 1213. He leans against enormous wooden doors, pushing with all his might and sending the gates crashing inward, much to the alarm of the enemies sheltered within. Dark clouds of dust and debris drift across the stone walkway and the tiled rooftop at right. Yoshihide's men watch in surprise from the castle courtyard, astonished at his feat of strength. A dramatic depiction of this legendary event, with beautiful color, fine bokashi shading, and wonderful detail.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 28 3/8" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. A few small holes and losses repaired from reverse. Some creases, rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
