Battle of Kawanakajima, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Terrific scene from the Second Battle of Kawanakajima along the banks of the Sai River when the forces of the Kai and Echigo Provinces faced off across the water. General Takeda Shingen's troops are massed along the shore, a row of wooden shields forming a solid barrier at the front of the group. Generals are lined up on horseback behind the shields, with one warrior on a black horse out front. An array of banners and personal standards flutters above the imposing army. At far left, a messenger kneels before the seated Shingen, gesturing with his hand. A great image with wonderful detail and fine shading in the water and silhouetted trees along the horizon.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28 5/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Some small holes and tears repaired from reverse. Slight rubbing at edges. Light creasing and soiling throughout.
