Mirror of the Gods and Emperors of Japan, 1878

Comments - Fantastic scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress surrounded by gods and goddesses and earlier emperors. The Emperor sits on an upholstered chair trimmed with fringe, his wife kneeling at his foot holding a poem slip. Above them, Kunitokotachi no Mikoto, a creator deity, is flanked by Injin and Yojin, two deities of Ise. At far right, a bird of pray sits atop a long bow held by a god, rays of light radiating from the bird. Fascinating detail in the image showing the heavenly lineage of the Japanese Emperor.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 28 3/8" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. A few light stains in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
