Meiji Empress and Ladies-in-waiting Viewing Cherry Blossoms, 1879

Comments - Attractive image of the Meiji Empress and her ladies-in-waiting arriving at a temple to view the blossoming cherry trees. The elegantly dressed women stroll along a stone path towards a temple building, an attendant sheltering the empress with an umbrella. Soldiers and dignitaries dressed in top hats and tailcoats line the walkway to greet her, along with members of the public. A flock of birds flutters overhead and a pagoda spire rises above the treetops at right. A handsome design with vibrant color and wonderful detail.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/4" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Faint soiling and ink offsetting along edges. Light spotting in subject and margins with some small worm holes at top edge, repaired from reverse. Faint vertical stains in center and left-hand panels. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
