Original Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874) Japanese Woodblock Print
Sumo Champion Sakaigawa Namiemon

Comments - Terrific portrait of Sakaigawa Namiemon, the 14th yokozuna or grand champion. Around his waist he wears a rope or tsuna with folded strips of paper signifying his rank, over a ceremonial purple apron with yellow stripes and two birds on it, trimmed with fringe. His bulky figure fills the frame as he stands in the ring, looking to the side. A great image of a champion sumo wrestler.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple small holes in subject, repaired from reverse. Slight creasing along edges with a few areas of spotting in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
