Travelers Stopping for a Break, 1847- 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two travelers stopping for a break along the side of the road. The man at left stands beside a yoke attacked to two large wooden chests, holding a sake bottle in his hand as he looks over his shoulder. The fellow at right crouches with a cup in one hand and a snack on a slender wooden skewer in the other. He grimaces angrily as he looks up. Foliage fills the background beneath a softly shaded dark night sky. Nice expressive figures in a handsome setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 19 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two panels, not attached at the seams. Losses at outer corners, a few small holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
