Comments - Fantastic triptych of samurai attacking Horikawa palace, where Minamoto no Yoshitsune found refuge from his brother Yoritomo, who eventually killed him in his quest to become absolute ruler of Japan. A fierce battle takes place on a verandah, with Yoshitsune and his men bravely fighting with their attackers swords and spears. In the center, a young warrior stands atop a fallen enemy with one foot as he uses his spear to counter a blow from another attacker. At right and left, two samurai swing their swords against oncomers, while at left, an archer has just fired off an arrow. The battle continues in the courtyard, with silhouetted figures fighting and smoke and flames rising form the other buildings. A great battle scene filled with energy and action, capturing the chaos of the night attack. A wonderful subject from the life of the notable Yoshitsune.

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
