Comments - Handsome portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the fireman Denkichi, holding a lantern aloft as he looks up over his shoulder. He wears a quilted fireman's jacket patterned with a dragon, the stitching beautifully detailed, and carries a shakujou, a staff topped with a ringed finial, traditionally carried by religious pilgrims. A handsome design with soft shading in the background and an inset above in the form of an open book.
