Meiji Procession

Comments - Intriguing illustration of a Meiji procession making its way along a street lined with viewers. A group of soldiers on horseback flying the chrysanthemum flag of the Meiji Emperor leads the way, galloping along in front of a line of horse-drawn carriages driven by men wearing Western top hats. Blossoming cherry trees dot the landscape, with Shinobazu Pond at right. At lower right, a carriage passes under a triumphal arch of greenery topped with Japanese Flags. A fascinating subject with a wealth of detail.
