Beauty under a Full Moon, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke III as a beauty on a moonlit night in the countryside. She smiles as she looks back over her shoulder, the edge of her scarf caught between her teeth. She wears a softly shaded kimono bordered with ducks and cherry blossoms, tied with a stripe obi and a red tie-dyed sash. She carries an umbrella, and has a roll of tissues tucked into her obi. A cuckoo flies across the night sky in front of a glowing full moon. An attractive design, nicely colored with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Slight creasing, a few wrinkles, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
