Comments - Attractive scene from Act 6 of the play "Kanadehon Chushingura," the play based on the true story of the 47 ronin. The beauty Okaku has sold herself to a brothel to allow her father to take part in the vendetta, and here she waits in a palanquin to be taken away to Kyoto. She looks up with a cheerful grin, a pipe in one hand and her tobacco pouch and pipe case in the other. She wears a geometric print blue and gray kimono, her hair simply arranged in a knot with a few ornaments. A pine tree frames the blue sky overhead. A nicely composed and colored image.
