Comments - Terrific depiction of a bugaku dance performance outside under a maple tree. Bugaku is a traditional Japanese dance originally performed exclusively for the imperial court. The dancers wears a beautiful Buddhist costume with a green tunic edged with ruffles over a red shirt and purple print pants, with a red sash trailing behind the figure. He also wears a fierce carved mask with bulging eyes and fangs, topped with a winged dragon. At left, a large drum surrounded by red flames and topped with a shining sun sits beneath the tree, with a brocade tent wall providing privacy for the viewers. A beautifully colored and detailed design.
