Original Sadahide (1807 - 1873) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ready for Battle, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting depiction of troops at an encampment ready for battle. A row of wooden shields placed edge to edge provides a barrier with samurai standing behind it, holding their spears upright. A general sits on a black horse behind his men, a bow in one hand. The four diamond crest of the Takeda Clan appears on the shields and on the tent walls enclosing the warriors, and banners and a fringed standard flutter above the warriors. A cloud-like border runs across the bottom of the scene with text above. Nicely detailed with soft shading in the cloud and the distant mountain.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few small wormholes and holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
