A Special Ukiyo-e Group -   Terrific woodblock print from a group of ukiyo-e designs originally sold by Hara Shobo of Tokyo. The venerable print dealer Hara Shobo has been in business for more than seventy years. Each design comes with a small label from the dealer identifying the artist and subject. A great opportunity to purchase a classic ukiyo-e subject by a master artist with an interesting provenance.

Lightning Bugs in the Cool of the Evening - Lovely image of beauties enjoying the evening cool along a riverside as fireflies flutter overhead. Two of the women sit on a bench, one gesturing as she looks up at the glowing insects. She wears a kimono patterned with plaid and large leaves, her hair smoothed back into a knot held in place with a comb. Irises blossoms along the edge of the rushing water. A charming design by this 18th century master.

Artist - Sukenobu (1671 - 1750)

Image Size - 8 7/8" x 6 5/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Lightly toned along edges and backed with thin paper. Minor rubbing and soiling surrounding subject with light spotting throughout. Slight thinning in lower left corner of print with a few small holes, repaired with backing paper. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
