From an untitled series of actors reflected in mirrors

Nakamura Shikan as Otomo no Kuronushi, 1831 - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as Otomo no Kuronushi in the play "Kumoi no Hana Masago no Shiranami." The enraged nobleman glares over his shoulder with an angry grimace, his chin thrust forward and his brows furrowed. He wears an elegant black robe with a scrolling pattern in gray, a tall black court cap tied under his chin with cord. A fine expressive figure from this interesting series presenting actors as reflected in oval mirror with cloth draped over the black lacquer frames. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
