Prince Genji and Beauties in Bird and Butterfly Kimono, 1853

Comments - Charming scene of a Prince Genji standing in a room overlooking a beautiful garden. He looks over his shoulder with a rather puzzled expression, a fan in hand. A young girl kneels beside him holding a vase of yamabuki or yellow mountain roses in her outstretched hands. Her kimono features an unusual design similar to butterfly wings over the sleeves. Two beauties dance about on the shore behind them, one dressed in a similar butterfly robe and the other wearing a kimono with a feather design on the sleeves. Cherry blossoms frame the gently rippling water with a bird bobbing on the surface. An intriguing image with lovely color and detail.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 13 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some wrinkling and creasing in subject. Some light rubbing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
