Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Shy Beauty and Nobleman, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro as the nobleman Ashikaga Jiro standing near a doorway as he tugs on the end of a robe. His other hand rests protectively on the shoulder of the beauty kneeling before him, who shyly hides her face behind her sleeve. She wears a gray robe patterned with Genji symbols, while her companion is dressed in an elegant kimono with a design of gourds and leaves. The evening sky is framed by autumn grasses and leaves. A handsomely detailed subject.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some toning at edges. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
