Ichikawa Danjuro V as Tametomo

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro V as the great samurai Tametomo gripping a sword with both hands, looking to the side with a scowl. His blue stage makeup gives him a strange, fierce appearance, and his long hair flows loosely over his shoulders. The sleeves of his blue and white under robe are tied back with a purple sash for easier movement, and he wears several layers of robes over voluminous purple patterned hakama pants. A great expressive figure.

Artist - Shunsen (1762 - circa 1830)

Image Size - 11 3/4" x 5 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Thinning and small losses at top right corners from previous folio mounting, repaired, blends well. Tiny crease at bottom right corner. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
