Comments - Fantastic triptych depicting the seven famous warriors at the Battle of Shizugadake in 1583, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated Sakuma Morimasa. In this famous incident, seven of Hideyoshi's bravest samurai used spears to attack the enemy, most notably the great Kato Kiyomasa. They are shown here on a craggy hilltop before the battle, surveying the enemy troops below. At right, a warrior blows a conch shell to signal the attack, while another sits astride a brown horse peering over the edge of the precipice. The valiant men are calm and determined as they prepare for the battle, dressed in beautifully detailed armor, their sashimono or personal standards flying above their backs. A terrific design with a magnificent mountain setting, fine bokashi shading and handsome wood grain impression. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast.
