Ichikawa Danjuro as Yuranosuke

Comments - Handsome portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the 47 ronin in the kabuki drama "Kanadehon Chushingura." After vowing to avenge Lord Hangan's death, Yuranosuke pretends to lead a life of dissipation to convince Moronao's spies that he is not planning a vendetta. He is shown here stumbling through the streets drunk, his arm around the shoulder of a smiling beauty who supports him. His purple outer robe has slipped from his shoulder and he stares up at the sky with a distracted expression. The title cartouche at upper left takes the form of an open book with text. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and bold color.

Artist - Ginko (active 1874 - 1897)

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some light rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
