Street Knight and Warrior in Disguise, 1863

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring Nakamura Shikan IV as the otokodate or street night Juemon, shown in the center holding an umbrella over his shoulder. At left, Iwai Kumesaburo III appears as the courtesan Hanako, who is actually the warrior Yoshida Matsuwakamaru, alias the bandit Kiritaro, who is undercover while attempting to recover a priceless seal stolen from the Yoshida Clan. She smiles coyly, tilting her head, the edge of her scarf caught between her teeth. Another otokodate at right frowns glumly as he looks down, a worried expression on his face. Nice large expressive figures set against a dark night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2"

A few small holes and thinning spots, repaired, blends well. Toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details.
