Girls Watching Birds

Comments - Attractive scene from the "Tale of Genji" of two small girls on the verandah of a palace, watching as several birds flutter overhead. At bottom right, Prince Genji arrives, peering over the top of a brushwood fence with a fan in hand, his sword bearer following behind him. Blossoming cherry trees frame the view, with a stone lantern on the rocky shore of the water. A charming subject, nicely detailed and softly shaded.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few tiny wormholes and small holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
