Nakamura Shikan IV as Banzaemon and Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Shikazo, 1861

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the evil samurai Fuwa Banzaemon and Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Shikazo. Banzaemon frowns unhappily as he looks down at his companion, holding his arm to his chest. He wears a gray brocade kimono patterned with swirling yellow clouds over a red under robe, his thick hair tied back into an upright topknot with a bushy end. Shikazo grimaces uncomfortably as he pushes up the sleeve of his robe. Nice expressive figures with fine detail in the hair and soft shading in the night sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 1/2" x 13 5/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Backed with old paper. A couple creases and stains in subject. Some minor soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
