Dressing a Young Nobleman, 1851

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro as Ashikaga Jiro. A woman is helping the young nobleman dress, wrapping a blue sash that reverses to a red tie-dyed pattern about his waist. She kneels behind him, reaching around him with her hand as he smiles down at her. The blue portion of his kimono features a design of Genji symbols, bordered with a pale yellow fabric with delicate embossing. She wears a black robe bordered with delicate flowers and grasses and tied with a green brocade obi. A charming subject.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 10" x 14 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some wrinkling and creasing in subject. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Some light rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
