Young Boy at a Gathering

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene from a play based on the chronicle "Taikoki" of a nobleman holding a young boy on his shoulder as he addresses a group of daimyo and samurai. The nobleman wears formal court dress and a court cap, and grips a staff of office in his hand. The elderly warrior before him frowns at him unhappily, while the samurai at left seems quite agitated, leaning forward with his fist clenched. A handsome triptych with lively color, detailed with embossing in the elderly warrior's white hair and beard, and burnishing in the black cap at left.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A few small stains in margins. Faint spotting throughout. Light creasing at corners and edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
