Young Boy and Angry Old Man, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene showing the young boy Kikumaru encountering an angry old man and a beauty at the side of the road while traveling at night. He carries a kimono beneath his arm, his other hand resting atop the hilt of his sword as he looks up at the man, smiling faintly. The gray-haired elder leans forward with a grimace as he grabs the kneeling beauty by the collar. She smiles, tilting her head coyly, as she throws out her hand to maintain her balance. The youth wears a geometric print white under robe, his outer black floral kimono pushed down to the waist and his thick hair pulled back into a bushy ponytail. The actors are Onoe Kikugoro as Kikumaru and Nakamura Kamenojo as the beauty Oren. A handsome design with an atmospheric night setting beneath a pine tree. Nicely colored and shaded.
