Scowling Man and Angry Matron, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait with the figures presented on vertical panels with wood grain in the background. The man at left hunches forward with an unhappily grimace, finger a small cloth-wrapped parcel in his hands. The matron stares at him with a malevolent sneer, a folding fan in her hand She wears an elegant red kimono patterned with wisteria and large kanji characters, her hair pulled smoothly back into a large loop adorned with a single wooden hairpin. Nice expressive figures with fine line work in the hair and embossing in the white kimono trim.

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some light rubbing and toning at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
