Man Trying to Escape, 1856

Comments - Amusing kabuki scene of a young beauty tugging on the robes of man who is obviously trying to escape from her. The alarmed man runs forward with a grimace, his kimono trailing behind him as the beauty stares at him with a wild-eyed grin. She wears a purple tie-dyed kimono tied with a red floral obi, her hair adorned with a red lacquer comb, colorful floral ornaments, and red ribbons. The shop behind her holds covered wooden pails and stacks of shallow tubs, with a tobacco set on the floor of the room. An intriguing subject with a nicely detailed setting.
