Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Imasu: Segawa Kikunojo V as Tokiwa Gozen - Charming kabuki portrait of Segawa Kikunojo V as Tokiwa Gozen, the beautiful wife of Minamoto no Yoshitomo. She looks up out of the corners of her eyes with a playful smile, tilting her head coyly. She wears a pale blue and white robe patterned with circular paulownia motifs, the emblem of the Minamoto, over a red floral under robe. Her hair is combed smoothly back over her shoulders with a few loose locks framing her face. A cloud-like border separates the figure from a view of travelers on a hillside above the village of Imasu as night falls. The title cartouche at upper right is framed by a rectangular pillow, a lamp, an armrest, and a red lacquer stand holding an incense burner. An attractive design with soft bokashi shading in the background.
