Iwai Kumesaburo III as Karigane Bunshichi, 1852

Comments - Attractive kabuki portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo III as Karigane Bunshichi, one of five otokodate or street knights in the play "Koigoromo Karigane-zome." The young rogue grins cheerfully as he looks back over his shoulder, his arms tucked inside his plum colored kimono bordered with irises. His hair is pulled back into a thick topknot tied with a white cord, and he has a blue and white towel draped over his shoulder. The night sky is framed by a blossoming plum tree. A handsome design with fine shading in background.

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 5/8"
