Picnic under a Plum Tree, 1854

Comments - Charming image of a beauty enjoying a picnic under a blossoming plum tree. She relaxes on mats spread on the ground, leaning back on one hand as she takes a toothpick from her mouth. She wears a black outer kimono bordered with flowers and tied with a checked obi. A red lacquer tray holds dishes of food, and a blue and white ceramic sake bottle sits in a warmer nearby. A bamboo garden fence encloses flowering yellow shrubs, with the plum branches framing the gray evening sky above. An attractive spring subject, nicely detailed and colored.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 14 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
