47 Ronin, Act 6 - Handsome kabuki scene from the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the play based on the true story of the 47 ronin. The beautiful young Okaru has been sold to a brothel and is being carried away by palanquin at upper left. Inside the house, her husband Kampei is accused of killing his father-in-law, the stolen moneybag on the floor beside him as Okaru's mother weeps. A terrific image from this famous tale with wonderful detailing in the household furnishings, including a fox and a stretched fox fur hanging on the wall and woodblock prints pasted to the low folding screen at right.
