Angry Beauty, 1861

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of an angry beauty leaning forward anxiously. She looks up out of the corners of her eyes, an unhappy grimace on her face. She wears a pale blue outer kimono with inserts of fabric with writing on them over a red under robe. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth knot, adorned with a decorative comb and tied with yarn. A nice expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair and embossing in the blue collar of the red under robe, plus burnishing in the black collar. A handsome composition.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical center fold, vertical fold near left edge. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
