Moon at Genji's Villa, 1854

Comments - Charming scene of Mitsuuji, the County Genji, enjoying a moonlit evening at his country villa. He relaxes on a platform covered with tatami mats, surrounded by beauties, a sumptuous banquet spread out before him. The nobleman wears a sheer black kimono and holds a long slender pipe. He smiles happily as he gazes at the full moon as misty clouds drift across the evening sky. At right, a small girl leans over the edge of the platform with an eager smile, the beautiful garden spreading out behind her with bridges over a pond and a pine tree framing the view. Wonderful detail in the elegant fabrics and household furnishings, plus fine shading in the water and sky. An attractive design, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Paper slightly rippled. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
