Battle of Kawanakajima

Comments - Terrific illustration of the great Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. In the center, Kenshin raises his sword high above his head with both hands as his horse rears, ready to strike his enemy. At right, Shingen raises his iron battle fan to counter the impending blow as his dappled horse plunges through the water led by a retainer. He stares at his foe with fierce determination, wearing an imposing battle helmet topped with a horned demon and a flowing white wig. He wears a monk's mantle over his flowing red robes, his fringed standard fluttering above his back. at left, Shingen's men rush forward to assist him, one samurai thrusting a spear at his attacker. The fight continues in the background along both sides of the water, with warriors in gray silhouette in the distance. A fantastic subject filled with energy and action, with lively color and detail. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast.
