A Japanese Dealer’s Personal Collection - This print and the others posted with our “Japanese dealer” subtitle are from the personal collection of a leading Japanese dealer. We were fortunate to be able to select a small number of fine pieces from the collection of this prominent Japanese print dealer. The prints in this offering are particularly good, rare and desirable designs that this dealer had set aside for his personal collection. We chose prints that we knew would appeal to Fuji Arts clients. Take some time to explore this fine, small group. These designs are rarely offered!
Comments - Dramatic depiction of the Battle of Tsukushi in 1333 from the epic "Taiheiki." At right, a warrior on the top of a ship flings an enemy over his head with a single hand, grimacing angrily. Another attacker tumbles backwards below, while at left, a samurai climbs a heavy rope to board an enemy ship. Several boats are already on fire, with orange flames and embers, and gray smoke drifting across the star-dotted night sky. At top center, several men leap into the sea as the mast of the ship collapses, engulfed in flames. An incredible image with fantastic detail and beautiful bokashi shading. A great design we've never seen before.
