Series; Ten Famous Excellencies of Tametomo, 1848 - 1851

Shiranui, Tametomo's Wife - Wonderful portrait from Kuniyoshi's series illustrating scenes from the life of the famous 12th century warrior Minamoto Tametomo. Here, Tametomo's wife Shiranui shines a lantern over her head on her way to rescue her husband. She wears a solid blue kimono over her armor, and carries a rope with a small grappling hook on the end. The lantern sends rays of orange light across the dark sky as she pauses to read a signpost, several leaves falling through the air. A handsome design with a beautiful, expressive face.

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A couple small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
